Chalk It Up for Literacy is an annual, family-friendly event celebrating the power of individuals with a common belief: that everyone has a right to literacy. The highlight of Chalk It up is watching local artists create chalk art promoting literacy. The event incorporates fundraising, volunteer recruitment and visibility opportunities for Oregon Literacy, Inc. (OLI), Portland Literacy Council and sponsors by creating a festive and unifying environment for art and book fans alike. We believe the enthusiasm generated by Chalk It Up for Literacy will bring us closer to our goals.

Additionally, we have created an ongoing supplement to the Chalk It Up event - the Chalk It Up Travelling Show! The Travelling Show component is a touring exhibit of 6-8 pieces of Chalk It Up For Literacy chalk art (created at the annual event) presented in galleries, art shows, and other high visibility locations. The tour changes venue often so be sure to keep checking back on this page for the present location or simply contact us. In 2005 OLI and PLC plan to take the event statewide.
