| Read Across Oregon
The 5th annual Read Across Oregon (RAO) event takes place in March of 2007. Individuals, schools and businesses alike are encouraged to sign up and participate by reading as much as they can while raising money and support for Oregon Literacy’s valuable programs and services.
Oregon Literacy, Inc. (OLI) will be asking for a small flat fee to join Read Across Oregon. For this charitable fee, each participant will be placed in a raffle and can win prizes donated by Oregon companies (prizes to be determined). Entrants also have the option of obtaining pledges in addition to the entry fee, much like any walk-a-thon or bike-a-thon, on a per page basis. (Total pledge amounts and people pledging for each person will garner more entries into the event raffle to win prizes.)

Here is an overview of how each type of participant
can become involved:
• Individuals - Submit the $10 entrance fee and attempt to obtain pledges above and beyond that fee. Promote the event to friends, family and co-workers. Consider asking your employer(s) or school(s) to become involved.
• Non-profits (501(c)3 only) - Charities receive half of the funds that are raised by anyone that they have brought in to participate in RAO! The entity simply promotes the event to all staff, constituents, associates, friends, family, etc. - who enter RAO just as an Individual would (see above) - and works with OLI to make sure funds are obtained. OLI will provide the marketing materials, reader packets and do the bookkeeping for the event. Participants simply enter the beneficiary's name in the appropriate box on our sign up form and the organization will receive 50% of the funds raised by that participant.
• Businesses - Any company can "sponsor" their employees, by paying all or part of the entry fee, or simply promote the event in general. If the "sponsorship" option is preferred, OLI will work with that organization to highlight their corporate presence on marketing material and in press releases.
The best part is that this can be done from anywhere that someone has a book! Participants can read at home, on the bus, in the park and even to their children (or vice versa) and textbooks do count.
